From Ashes is an interactive event, and a tender collaborative act of repair and recovery.
Residents construct a version of their city from paper, creating 1000’s of tiny papercraft buildings by hand, each one reflecting the architecture of where they live. Once built, the entire paper city is covered in ash, and people are invited to slowly brush the ash away, and excavate the city.
From Ashes is a meditative journey reflecting on the future of our cities in the shadow of a changing climate, global pandemics, nuclear threat and war.
Originally co-produced by 21st Century Museum in Kanazawa (JP) and Forest Fringe (UK). UK version supported by Bristol City Council Imagination Fund, Arts Council England, Compass Festival & M Shed.
