She is a voice-over artist. Off stage, in a space never seen but only heard, two disembodied voices ask her to conjure different voices for commercials, self-help audiobooks, meditation tapes, computer games, robo-calls .... anything and everything. Is she the powerful protagonist in her own narrative, literally building her own reality - and ours too - or is her voice being used to construct something more complicated? It's capitalism's audio debris, a vocal soup that, in a post-apocalyptic world, will continue to be heard for as long as there is electricity. The Talent is a show about the voice and human presence in the 21st Century. Where does the voice live? How will her voice live on, outside her body, if it can take on a life of its own? From this new poetic script, phrases are selected that act as playful instructions or manifestos for a different set of behaviours in city space. From the words of existing byelaws, an accidental poetry emerges that re-constructs, re- engineers and rehearses possible futures.&nbsp;Re-inserted back into the architecture of the cityscape on hoardings and giant billboards, the new rules imagine alternative behaviours unfolding throughout the city. Future Perfect: New Byelaws for Civic Spaces is a collaboration between Action Hero, and Canadian visual artists Mia + Eric. Travelling over 60,000km through 36 European countries; we have recorded the voices of over 1800 ordinary people inside our van, which doubles as a recording studio. Oh Europa is a true labour of love: a project that spans a continent and seeks to re-imagine the ways in which we think about Europe, and how we continue to share this space together. As well as meeting strangers inside our van during our continuing travels, several other interrelated art works have been created as a result of the journey, spanning installation, a durational ‘live radio’ theatre performance, an outdoor performance, a nomadic radio station, a book, a gallery piece and digital works. The only songs played are love songs sung by ordinary people living in Europe - these songs are being collected by Action Hero journeying since 2018 across the continent in our small campervan/recording studio asking strangers to sing love songs. &nbsp; RadiOh Europa is a deep-dive into love, heartbreak and the voices of ordinary people living in Europe. It can be presented as a “live radio show” indoors or outdoors over several hours, with audiences able to come and go as they please. It can also be an online live broadcast, a series of podcasts or a series of shows for local radio. The piece is an invitation to listen collectively; an opportunity to hear diverse voices &amp; sentiments from across Europe, intercut with musings &amp; memories from the radio hosts inspired by our journey and the people who’ve sung for us. The entire archive of love songs we have collected on our journey through Europe was transmitting 24/7, audible only in these specially chosen locations.&nbsp; Using a dedicated Oh Europa app, listeners could tune in to the broadcast, day or night, when they reached the location of a “beacon”. Even if nobody was tuned in, the love songs continued to play.&nbsp; The locations of the “beacons” were chosen because of their significance as type of edge or threshold. We took video at each space and surveyed the area, and later created a video work and book. The beacons have now been archived, but the broadcast is still active and available to hear from anywhere. These fellowship were funded via the company’s status as an Arts Council England National Portfolio Organisation, 2018-2023. The fellowship was a package of support that included £6k in no-strings-attached cash, mentoring, access to our studio and archive, and advocacy amongst our networks.&nbsp; We started the fellowships as a way of continuing the peer-to-peer support that has been at the centre of our practice, but in a more structured way. Maverick: Bullshit. You can be mine. Top Gun, 1986 Between 2020-2023, Action Hero ran a yearly residency for mid-career artists called You Can Be My Wingman with a focus on collaborative practice. Each year, 10 artists working in pairs joined Action Hero and an international artist-mentor to spend a week resting, reflecting and making space for new collaborative ideas.&nbsp;Action Hero cooked all the food, the artists spent time doing whatever they liked alongside the mentor. It was like a spa week for your artistic practice.
